Halloween
It is a very
popular American and English party. It is celebrated on October 31sr. The Druid
priests of ancient Britain believed that witches, demons and spirits of dead
people roamed on the eve of November1.
To protect
themselves from bad spirits, the Druids offered them things to eat and disguised
themselves with masks, so the spirits would not harm them.
The origin of
the name Halloween
The Catholic
Church designated the first day of November to honor All Saint or All hallows.
The night before All Sants Day was called All Hollows Even. The expression All
Hallows Even was shortened to Halloween.
On the evening
of October 31 you may hear some people knocking on your door.
When on you open
the door, what do you see?
A group of noisy
children dressed as ghosts and witches, holding a bag. And you ask them:
They shout:
- Trick or
treat!
Advise: Give
them some money or candy or they may put some dirt on the walls of your house.
